Repair of truncus arteriosus.

چکیده
When commenting on the paper of Danton and colleagues concerning surgical repair of the common arterial trunk, I pointed out that their optimal procedure was first described by the late Kenneth Reid [1]. They indicated in the discussion that they would modify this manuscript accordingly. Sadly, they did not [2]. That does not, however, detract from Mr Reid’s precedence with this particular procedure. Persistent Truncus Arteriosus With Intact Ventricular Septum: Clinical, Hemodynamic and Short-term Surgical Outcome
INTRODUCTION Truncus arteriosus with intact ventricular septum is a rare and unique variant of persistent truncus arteriosus (PTA) which usually presents with central cyanosis and congestive heart failure in neonate and early infancy. Associated cardiac and non-cardiac anomalies may affect morbidity and mortality of these patients. CASE PRESENTATION We describe clinical presentation, echocard...
متن کاملTruncus arteriosus: successful surgical correction without the use of a valved conduit.
A new operation for the restoration of continuity between the right ventricle and pulmonary circulation in truncus arteriosus in infancy without the use of a tube graft is described. This was achieved by anastomosing the inferior margin of the detached confluent branch pulmonary arteries to the apex of a vertical infundibular ventriculotomy to form the posterior wall of the reconstructed right ...
متن کاملRepair of persistent truncus arteriosus with interrupted aortic arch.
OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to analyse experience with repair of truncus arteriosus with interrupted aortic arch. METHODS Between 1993 and 2004, eight consecutive patients underwent repair of truncus arteriosus with interrupted aortic arch. The median age was 6.5 days (range 1-85 days) and median weight was 3.2 kg (range 2.6-4.8 kg). Five patients had type A and 3 patients had type B a...
متن کاملOutcomes of Surgical Repair for Persistent Truncus Arteriosus from Neonates to Adults: A Single Center's Experience.
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to report our experiences with surgical repair in patients of all ages with persistent truncus arteriosus. METHODS From July 2004 to July 2014, 50 consecutive patients with persistent truncus arteriosus who underwent anatomical repair were included in the retrospective review. Median follow-up time was 3.4 years (range, 3 months to 10 years). RESULTS Fifty patient...
متن کاملFactors associated with outcomes of persistent truncus arteriosus.
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to identify trends and factors associated with outcomes of persistent truncus arteriosus (PTA). BACKGROUND Although there have been significant improvements, PTA continues to be associated with significant morbidity and mortality. METHODS We undertook a review of all consecutive cases of PTA (n = 205) presenting at our institution from 1953 to 1997. ...
متن کاملDifferences in extra-cellular matrix and myocyte homeostasis between the neonatal right ventricle in hypoplastic left heart syndrome and truncus arteriosus.
OBJECTIVE The right ventricle in hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) works at systemic pressure and large volume loading before and after first stage palliation. There is a paucity of information regarding the intrinsic characteristics of the right ventricle in HLHS. We studied extra-cellular matrix composition, myocyte homeostasis and gene expression in right ventricular biopsies obtained f...
